Nusli, 11 years old, was one of the children who was a little more self conscious about her deformity. On the screening day and the day of her surgery, she came in wearing big sweaters and walking kind of hunched over in a timid manner. As I interviewed Nusli and her mother, she was a little on the shy side, but she opened up with me as the interview went on and when I directed questions towards her.
Her mother thinks, “It is very special and important in her daughter’s life to feel better about herself and to feel accepted in society.”
Nusli confided in me that kids have made fun of her, which has resulted in Nusli attempting to hide her deformity with her long, beautiful hair. Nusli’s favorite subject is math, but she did flatter me with a few English words such as “please” and thank you!” Nusli loves to study and sing, and would also enjoy traveling to Paris one day.
Nusli’s mother would like to, “Thank God and also thank the doctors and that they were able to come and help the poor with their needs. I would love for you to continue your work and keep helping others who need it as well.”
